Kwone (Ghotane/Ghonde) Gurung (Tamu) Community UK is a social organization formally established in 2015 by the Kwone-Ghotane/Ghonde Gurungs, a distinct subgroup of the Gurung (Tamu) community.
The Community’s mission is to unite Kwone brothers and sisters living in the UK—whether they are serving, retired, or former British Army members, or individuals here for education, work, or family life.
Our Key Objectives
- Unity: Bringing together all Kwone Gurungs in the UK.
- Welfare: Supporting members’ social and economic well-being.
- Cultural Preservation: Protecting the Kwone Gurung language, traditions, and rituals while adapting to the UK context.
- Integration: Encouraging full participation in British society.
- Youth Connection: Helping younger generations stay connected to Nepalese heritage.
What We Do
- Provide support during illness, bereavement, and family emergencies.
- Celebrate joyful family occasions like weddings, promotions, and cultural ceremonies.
- Organize cultural events like the annual Maghe Sankranti Picnic and Tihar/Deusi Bhailo programs.
Unique Features
- Chelibeti Department: An active women’s department leading social and cultural initiatives.
- Community Size: Over 300 life members and growing.
Our Contributions
- Donated to purchase most needed medical equipment in Nepal during COVID-19.
- Contributed nearly 60 Lakhs Nepali Rupees to construct Central Building Office in Kathmandu.
- Supported 60 Lakhs Nepali Rupees to building a Chaitya (Buddhist stupa) in Kagbeni, Muktinath.
- Backed rising talents like Miss Elina Gurung, an emerging singer and Miss Nanu Maya Gurung; a mountaineer.
- Promoted Gurung artists within the community.
Working Together
We collaborate with other Gurung and Nepali organizations in the UK and Nepal to promote cultural pride, social support, and community development.
